Organised by Matt Wright of Urban Peaks Sheffield and Andy Liversidge of Giant Sheffield, the duathlon took place at the Norfolk Arms and featured a 10km trail run, 40km bike ride, and a final 5km trail run—challenging participants while showcasing the city’s incredible outdoor landscape.
The trail run followed the scenic Limb Brook Trail, while the cycling leg took riders on a demanding 20km loop from the Norfolk Arms into Hathersage, climbing the notorious Fiddler’s Elbow before returning for the final run. Fortunately, the weather remained dry, ensuring ideal conditions for all athletes.
Every entrant successfully completed the event, and with a relatively small field, the environmental impact remained minimal. This intimate scale also allowed for greater camaraderie among participants, making for a truly special experience.
The event was supported by Edale Mountain Rescue, which had a presence on-site to raise awareness of its vital work. Additional backing came from Up and Running, Voom Nutrition, Bear Hug, and AV Timing, all of whom contributed to the success of the day. Voom Nutrition ensured every entrant was well-fueled, supplying nutrition for all participants, while Bear Hug and Voom Nutrition generously provided prizes for the event. A huge thanks also goes out to the dedicated volunteers, fellow event organisers, and friends who lent their time and effort to make the day a success.
The overwhelmingly positive feedback from participants has inspired the organisers to explore future editions of the event. Andy and Matt are excited to build on this success and further contribute to Sheffield’s thriving outdoor sports scene.
Over £250 was raised for Brain Research UK as fund raising efforts continue throughout the year.
